A New Anthropology Curriculum, Designed for the Future

Where To From Here?
A New Anthropology Curriculum
Curriculum Guide
Introduction & Guide to Navigate the Course
If you've made it to our website, you are about to embark on a journey into the world of āalternative anthropologyā. This conceptual, unconventional curriculum was inspired by a desire we share, as students of anthropology, to question and probe the discipline as we have come to know it.
We have designed this website to guide you through three major sites of inquiry into anthropology.
We begin by introducing some of the key concerns regarding anthropologyās
potentially troubled relationship with university institutions, and the Academy more broadly. We then take a creative turn, exploring alternative forms of ethnographic expression, including art, dance, and cooking. The final module turns our gaze inward once again, asking our readers to consider what anthropology can and ought to achieve. We explore the disciplineās troubled colonial past and wonder how best to move forward in the future.
While the readings we have curated for you may appear academic at first glance, we have aimed to make these pieces accessible to anyone who is interested in the nature and future of the discipline. We hope to give our readers some insight into the less common, even slightly darker sides of anthropology.
With this in mind, we end by asking āwhere to from here?ā
ā
Each module contains an overview, a list of key questions to think about, and tutorial material. We have designed this curriculum not just to be read, but also to be taught. Youāll find our teacher facing outlines here, which serve as a rough guide to anyone who might want to run the lessons and discussions we have provided. Oh, and there are no assessments. We thought long and hard about this decision and youāll find our justification for it here.
It is our hope that you will come away from each module with new questions, curiosities, critiques and most importantly, a new way of thinking about anthropology.
